    Segundo Navarro netted just the second hat trick in Sacred Heart men’s soccer’s Div. I program history, leading the way for the Pioneers in a 3-1 home win over Mount St. Mary’s on Friday afternoon from Park Ave Field. The win is the first league win of the season for SHU who improve to 2-8-2 overall and 1-2-2 in NEC play while the Mountaineers drop to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the NEC.
  • Football Welcomes Fellow Defending NEC Co-Champion Duquesne for Family Weekend on Saturday

    With tons on the line for both teams, the Sacred Heart football team has a huge NEC game ahead this weekend as the defending NEC Co-Champion Duquesne comes to town for a Noon start on Saturday in a game that can be seen live on ESPN3. Both sides went 5-1 in league play last season but a 28-24 triumph for the Dukes in Pittsburg proved the difference as Duquesne advanced to the FCS Playoffs by-way of their win over the Pioneers. Now the top two teams in the preseason NEC poll meet with plenty of postseason implications at-stake as both look to elevate their chances of another league title.

This marks the second NEC Rookie of the Week honoree for the Pioneers as Kayla Grant earned the award back on Sept. 8.

    NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team defeated NEC-foe Merrimack at home, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at Johnson Field. Makenna Crawford, Bridget Kelly, Kayla Kruk and Bridget LaRiccia tallied a goal apiece, while goalkeeper Hailey Power tallied 11 saves en route to the third shutout of her career. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 2-11 on the season and 1-1 in the NEC, while the Warriors fall to 2-10 on the season with the loss and 1-2 in the NEC. SHU will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 18 when the Pioneers play host to Bryant at 7 p.m. at Johnson Field.

    SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball defeated NEC-foe Bryant on the road in straight sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-22) Saturday evening. With the win, SHU improves to 8-10 on the season and 4-2 in NEC-play, while Bryant. falls to 10-13 on the season and 5-2 in the NEC. Liisel Nelis led SHU with nine kills and added eight digs, while Sarah Ciszek added 28 assists and nine digs in the win. The Pioneers return to action Friday, Oct. 18, when SHU travels to take on NEC-foe Fairleigh Dickinson at 7 p.m.

    The Sacred Heart women’s cross country team showed well on Saturday in the New England Championships, placing 12th out of 22 teams at Franklin Park in the annual gathering of the top teams across the Northeast. Racing against the top competition across all NCAA Divisions in the Northeast, the Pioneers finished just one spot lower than their 11th place result last season. New Hampshire claimed the team victory in the varsity event.

    FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's bowling team was picked to finish first in the NEC Bowling Preseason Coaches' Poll, released by the league on Thursday. The Pioneers were picked to finish second last season and ended up winning the NEC Tournament to earn an automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament. SHU defeated Caldwell in the opening round, then followed with an upset over top-seeded Vanderbilt, before being defeated by Nebraska and University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
