Baseball Defeats William & Mary, 7-3 on the Road

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Sacred Heart University baseball team earned its second win of the season, defeating William & Mary 7-3 Friday afternoon on the road.

Stephen Thibault and Austin Markmann drove in a run apiece, while Joe Emerson tallied three RBI's. Cooper Thompson got the start and earned the win, giving up one unearned run on one hit and striking out three in six innings of work.

  • The Tribe tied the game in the bottom of the second after scoring on a SHU throwing error

  • The Pioneers struck for six runs in the sixth to push its lead to 7-1

  • With one out and a runner on first, Isiah Daubon doubled to right to put runners on second and third

  • Stephen Thibault stepped to the plate and drew a wild pitch to plate a runner, before drilling an RBI double to left to give SHU a 3-1 lead

  • With the bases loaded in the inning, Joe Emerson stepped to the plate and delivered a bases clearing triple to right-center to extend the Pioneers' lead to 6-1

  • Brown immediately followed by reaching on a fielder's choice, scoring Emerson from third

  • The Tribe responded by plating a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to cut the SHU lead to 7-2

  • William & Mary added a third run in the eighth, plating a run on an error

The Pioneers will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 23, when SHU takes on William & Mary in the second of a three-game series.
