Elijah Brown's Five RBI's Leads Baseball Past Stetson, 11-4

DeLand, FL. – The Sacred Heart University baseball team defeated Stetson 11-4 on the road Tuesday evening. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 3-6, while Stetson dropped to 4-7.

Cooper Thompson earned the win for the Pioneers, tossing 4.2 innings of shutout ball in relief, striking out six in the process. Elijah Brown led the SHU offense, going 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI's in the win, while Austin Markmann added two hits and three RBI's of his own.

NOTES (SHU 11, Stetson 4):

  • Billy O'Brien got the start and suffered a no-decision after giving up three unearned runs and striking out two in 2.1 innings of work

  • Cooper Thompson earned the win for the Pioneers, tossing 4.2 innings of shutout ball in relief, striking out six in the process.

  • Elijah Brown led the SHU offense, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a stolen base and five RBI's in the win

  • Brown fell a double short of completing the cycle

  • Jake Frasca and Stephen Thibault also had three hits apiece in the win

  • Austin Markmann added two hits and three RBI's of his own

  • Isiah Daubon and Justin Jordan added an RBI apiece

  • The Pioneers struck first in the top of the first inning after Daubon drilled a two-out RBI single to left center

  • The Pioneers added two more runs in the second to take a 3-0 lead

  • With runners on second and third, Jordan grounded out, allowing a run to score

  • During the next at-bat, Brown scored on a wild pitch

  • The Pioneers made it 5-0 after Brown served a two-run single to right in the third

  • Stetson responded with three runs of its own in the third inning to cut the SHU lead to 5-3

  • After tallying a run in the fourth inning, the Pioneers added four in the sixth inning to take a commanding 10-3 lead

  • After Thibault and Frasca led the inning off with back-to-back hits to put runners in scoring position, Markmann delivered a two-run single to left to push the lead to 8-3

  • With runners on the corners, Brown stepped to the plate and served a two-run triple to right to give SHU a 10-3 lead

  • Brown followed with a solo home run in the ninth
