Baseball Splits Doubleheader vs. LIU Brooklyn

BRONX, N.Y. - The Sacred Heart University baseball team split its doubleheader against LIU Brooklyn Saturday, winning game one 4-3 and falling 3-2 in game two. The Pioneers moved to to 5-12 on the season and 2-1 in the NEC, while LIU Brooklyn moved to 3-12 and 1-2 in NEC-play.

Ryan LaMay pitched a complete-game for the win in game one, earning his first win of the season.

GAME 1 NOTES (SHU 4, LIU Brooklyn 3):

  • Ryan LaMay got the start and went the distance, allowing three earned runs on four hits and striking out four

  • Justin Jordan led the SHU offense, going 2-for-4 with a solo homerun and two RBI's on the day

  • Trevor Fagan went 1-for-3 with two RBI's

  • Stephen Thibault went 2-for-3 with a walk

  • The Blackbirds struck first after tallying three runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead

  • The Pioneers responded with a run in the bottom of the third after Jordan launched a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the third

  • SHU was able to tie the contest at 3-3 in the fourth inning after Fagan delivered a two-out two-run single

  • With two outs in the bottom of the sixth and runners on the corners, Jordan delivered an RBI single to score Danny Glendon, giving SHU a 4-3 lead

GAME 2 NOTES (LIU Brooklyn 3, SHU 2):

  • Justin Jordan got the start and took the loss after giving up two earned runs on six hits and struck out one in five innings of work

  • Michael Attonito pitched four innings of shutout ball in relief

  • Danny Glendon and Trevor Fagan drove in the lone SHU runs

  • Dan Fallacaro, Stephen Thibault, Jake Frasca and Austin Markman recorded two hits apiece

  • LIU Brooklyn broke the scoreless tie after plating a run in the third, fourth and fifth innings to hold a 3-0 lead

  • The Pioneers were able to plate two runs in the seventh to cut the deficit to 3-2

  • Glendon drilled an RBI double to right, followed by a Fagan RBI single to trim the deficit
