FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart football's high-flying offensive tandem of fifth-year QB Logan Marchi and first-year WR Tyrese Chambers were featured this week in a pair of local outlets. A feature piece entitled 'Marchi off to blazing start at SHU' was written by Steve Barlow in Waterbury's Republican-American while 'Receiver Tyrese Chambers finds home at Sacred Heart' was written by Doug Bonjour for the CT Post. Helping engineer the sixth-highest scoring game in program history over last weekend, Marchi finished Saturday's 56-40 win at Lafayette throwing 22-for-32 on his attempts for a career-high 407 yards with 6 TD and 0 INT. His six touchdowns tied a school record while his 407 passing yards is the second-highest single-game total in school history. On the receiving end of several Marchi tosses was Chambers as the first-year tallied nine catches for 133 yards and 2 TD. All three of those single-game totals represent program records for first-years.
For his efforts, Marchi became the program's first-ever CFPA FCS National Performer of the Week, an award handed to the nation's top individual performance in Week 3. Marchi also picked up his second straight College Sports Madness NEC Offensive Player of the Week and was announced as the Offensive Player of the Week by the NEC on Monday. Chambers, meanwhile, earned his second consecutive NEC Rookie of the Week nod as the first-year has exploded over the last two contests to the tone of 13 catches for 227 yards (17.5 ypc) and 3 TD.
The Pioneers (2-1, 0-0 NEC) are back in action this weekend with the NEC opener at LIU (0-1, 0-0 NEC0 on Saturday from Bethpage Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM.
