Pioneers Tie for Fifth at Yale Macdonald Cup

NEW HAVEN, CT (October 2, 2011) - The Sacred Heart men's golf team finished tied for fifth overall at the annual Macdonald Cup hosted by Yale University over the weekend.  The Pioneers posted a two-round score of 583, tying with Harvard for fifth.  The host Bulldogs won the event with a +5 score of 565.

SHU senior Joseph Serrantino (Cromwell, CT) was the Pioneers top-finisher, tying for 16th overall in the field of 74 golfers.  Serrantino posted a 144 (+4) over Saturday and Sunday highlighed by a 71 on day one.  The event took place at the Yale Course, in it's 35th year of competition, a 6,749 yard, par 70 course.  Saturday's two-round schedule was shortened to just 18-holes due to rain.

Junior Joshua Salah (Gloucester, MA) shot a 36-hole score of 145 (+5) to finish tied for 21st overall.  Senior Leopoldo Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) tied for 23rd overall shooting 146 over the two days.

The Pioneers will wrap up their fall schedule at the UConn Invitational on October 10th and 11th at Ellington Ridge Country Club.
