The Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team will host Paws of War at its March 23game versus Hobart on Campus Field. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
Paws of War's mission is to train and place shelter dogs to serve and provide independence to our U.S. military Veterans that suffer from the emotional effects of war. In turn, each Veteran can experience the therapeutic and unconditional love only a companion animal can bring. Since 2014, Paws of War has supported over 100 Veterans with service dogs rescued from kill shelters.
"We are honored to be working with Paws of War," said Pioneers head coach Jonathan Basti. "Their mission of providing Service dogs with Vets is a very noble, and necessary, one. It is very important that we not forget the sacrifice that these brave men and women have made for us, and groups such as Paws of war are there to help pair vets with a life companion. Plus. I really love dogs. They are the greatest animal on the planet."
Paws of War will have a presence at the entrance to Campus Field on March 23, and will be selling merchandise and accepting donations to assist in its ongoing mission to support military Veterans. In addition, all fans that donate four or more cans of Pedigree Dog Food or four rolls of paper towels to Paws of War, will receive a voucher to attend a future SHU lacrosse game as a thank you for the donation.
"We are thrilled to attend the military appreciation game and share our commitment to helping both ends of the leash," said Paws of War co-founder Dori Scofield.
Veterans attending the game on March 23 will receive a free ticket and their guests will receive half-price admission. Veterans can reserve tickets by calling the SHU ticket office at 203-396-TIXX or by visiting the ticket booth on the day of the game.
