Joseph Cipoletti Named NEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week

SOMERSET, N.J. – On the heels of his stellar defensive effort in Saturday's loss at Mount St. Mary's, Sacred Heart men's lacrosse senior Joseph Cipoletti was named a Northeast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Cipoletti splits the weekly honor with Alex Heger of Robert Morris.

Cipoletti earns his second NEC DPOW award of the season as well as the second of his career. With the announcement, Cipoletti joins Mount St. Mary's Dylan Furnback as the lone players in the NEC to win multiple Defensive Player of the Week awards in 2019.

A well-deserved honor for the senior, CIpoletti posted a career-high eight ground balls while matching his career-high with five caused turnovers in a 14-10 loss at league-leading Mount St. Mary's. The five caused turnovers is tied for the fifth-highest single-game total in program history.

In eight appearances in 2019, Cipoletti is enjoying a career year as he has already established a new single-season career-high with 41 ground balls while his 23 caused turnovers this season is just one off his single-season record 24 in 2018. His defensive efforts has SHU ranked Top 10 in caused turnovers per game (10.70) while Cipoletti leads the NEC and ranks third in the nation in caused turnover per game (2.88).

Cipoletti and the Pioneers are back in action with a crucial road game on Saturday, April 6th as SHU travels to take on Bryant with the opening faceoff set for 12:00 PM.
