Men's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day With 2-1 Victory In Overtime Thriller

FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University Men's Soccer team defeated Saint Francis Brooklyn this afternoon in an overtime thriller by a final score of 2-1. The team has now officially concluded the 2018 season with an overall record of 4-12-1, and an 3-5 Northeast Conference record.  

It would be the Pioneers that would strike first as freshman Segundo Navarro would find the back of the net at 18:46 off assists by Oscar Curras and Zander Hyltoft to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0. Twelve minutes later, the Terriers would find the equalizer as Matteo Caribotti off an assist by Anthony Gimenes to tie the game up at one. Neither team would find an answer in the remainder of the first half keeping the score tied at 1-1 heading into the second half. 

The second half would be all defense as neither team would be able to score a goal. Both teams would have some opportunities as Saint Francis took a total of 12 shots in the second compared the Pioneers four. Segundo Navarro would attempt to score the game winner in regulation at 84:54 but the shot just went wide. As neither team would be able to score, the game would go into overtime. 

Both teams were unable to score in the first overtime period as both sides combined for just seven shots. But in the second overtime period at 101:07 it would be Altin Celaj who would net the game winner for the Pioneers to give them the 2-1 victory on senior day and to conclude the regular season on a high note.
