Sacred Heart University first-year Cameron Croce finished 45thin the hammer throw at the NCAA East Regional Preliminary on Thursday afternoon.
Croce had his best throw in his final round of the season, throwing 50.46m, to move past Virginia senior Oghenakpobo Ekefore. Croce, one of eight freshmen in the event, threw 49.54m in his first throw.
Croce had a season-best throw at the New England Outdoor Championship, 57.79m, good for second place. Croce was named the Men's Most Outstanding Rookie Performer at the NEC Outdoor Championship, winning the hammer throw with a throw of 57.50m.
