Men's Volleyball Falls to St. Francis U., 3-1

FAIRFIELD, CONN. - The Sacred Heart University men's volleyball team fell to EIVA-foe St. Francis U., 3-1, Sunday afternoon at home. The loss drops the Pioneers to 3-13 overall and 1-9 in the EIVA, while St. Francis improves to 13-11 on the year and 7-3 in the EIVA.

Emerson Waumans led SHU with 13 kills, while Ramiro Balaguer led the Pioneers with 20 assists.

The Pioneers return to action on Friday, April 5, when the Pioneers travel to take on to NJIT at 6 p.m.

First Set: SHU 25, SFU 23

  • The Pioneers jumped out to an 8-3 lead, capped by a Calin Butler kill

  • After St. Francis cut the deficit to 12-8, SHU pushed the lead to 19-13

  • The Red Flash went on a 7-2 run to cut SHU's lead to 21-20

  • The Pioneers took four of the next seven points to secure the set win

Second Set: SFU 25, SHU 23

  • The teams traded points to a 13-13 tie

  • After St. Francis took a 15-13 lead, the Pioneers battled to a 20-20 tie

  • The teams continued to trade points to a 23-23 tie

  • The Red Flash took the next two points to tie the score at 1-1

Third Set: SFU 27, SHU 25

  • The teams played to a 9-9 tie

  • The Red Flash went on a 4-0 run after a kill and three-consecutive SHU attack errors

  • The Pioneers came back to tie the score at 19-19

  • The Red Flash went on a 4-0 run to take a 23-19 lead

  • After SHU tied the contest at 24-24, St. Francis went on a 3-1 run to secure the set win

Fourth Set: SFU 25, SHU 20

  • The two sides played to a 4-4 tie

  • With SHU leading 15-14, the Red Flash went on a 5-0 run to take a 19-15 lead

  • The Red Flash closed the match outscoring the Pioneers 6-5 to secure the 25-20 set win and 3-1 match win
