Men's Volleyball Celebrates Senior Day with Sweep Over Charleston (W.V.)

FAIRFIELD, CT–– The Sacred Heart men's volleyball team swept Charleston (W.V.) in its season finale. The Pioneers defeated the Golden Eagles 25-16 in all three sets. The team ends their season 5-16 overall and 3-11 in the EIVA.

Emerson Waumans led the Pioneers with 12 kills while red-shirt senior Taylor Bloomquist added 8 kills. Senior Noah Richetti managed 20 assists in the win.

First Set: SHU 25, UC-M 16

  • Sacred Heart started off strong with a 6--0 run

  • Waumans delivered two aces to extend the Pioneers lead, 12-4

  • The Golden Eagles went on a 3-0 run, but the Pioneers held onto their lead and closed the set 25-16

Second Set: SHU 25, UC-M 16

  • Charleston (W.V.) held an early lead over the Sacred Heart, 7-5

  • Sacred Heart went on their second 6-0 run of the match to pull ahead, 16-10

  • The Pioneers managed back-to-back kills to close the set 25-16 again

Third Set: SHU 25, UC-M 16

  • Looking to sweep the Golden Eagles, the Pioneers jumped out to a 7-3 lead

  • Not going out without a fight, Charleston West Virginia evened the score at 12-12

  • The Pioneers out scored the Golden Eagles 6-2 to take the lead, 18-14

  • A service error gave the Pioneers their third 25-16 win to sweep the Golden Eagles
