  • Four Teams Tabbed NEC Sportsmanship Awards

    The Northeast Conference announced the Sacred Heart University bowling team earned the 2018 Winter Sportsmanship award for its sport, while the softball, women’s golf and women’s tennis teams were announced as the winners of the 2019 Northeast Conference Spring Team Sportsmanship Award for their respective sports Thursday afternoon.

    CLEVELAND, OH. - The Sacred Heart University bowling team fell to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore 2-1 in the NCAA eight-team elimination game at Rollhouse Wickliffe Friday morning. The loss dropped the Pioneers to 1-2 in the tournament, ending the season for SHU.
  • Women's Bowling Upsets Top-Seeded Vanderbilt in NCAA Quarterfinals

    CLEVELAND, OH. - The Sacred Heart University bowling team defeated defending champions and top-seeded Vanderbilt 4-1 in the NCAA Quarterfinals Rollhouse Wickliffe Thursday morning. The victory propels the Pioneers to the winner’s portion of the eight-team of the NCAA Championship bracket, where SHU will take on Nebraska at 3 p.m.
  • Women's Bowling Falls to Nebraska in NCAA Tournament

    CLEVELAND, OH. - The Sacred Heart University bowling team fell to Nebraska 2-0 in the NCAA eight-team winner’s bracket at Rollhouse Wickliffe Thursday afternoon. The loss drops the Pioneers to 1-1 in the tournament, as SHU will take on the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday, April 12 at 9 a.m. in an elimination game.

  • Rachel Bamford Named NEC Championship MVP, Kelly and Boughton Named to All-Tournament Team

    FAIRFIELD, Conn. - After leading the Sacred Heart women’s bowling team to its fourth NEC Championship this past weekend, Rachel Bamford, Caitlyn Kelly and Tori Boughton have been named to the NEC All-Tournament Team as announced by the league Thursday afternoon. Bamford was also named MVP of the NEC Championship. Bamford became the first SHU player to be named MVP of the NEC Championship since Lauren Hoffman earned the honor during the 2016 NEC Championship.

  • Women's Bowling Captures Fourth NEC Championship

    HAMILTON, NJ–– The Sacred Heart women's bowling team defeated Mount St. Mary's to clinch the program's fourth NEC Championship title and its first since the 2015-16 season. With the win, the Pioneers earn an automatic bid to the National Collegiate Bowling Championship, in Cleveland, Ohio from April 11-13.  With the win, the Pioneers are guaranteed to be one of the 12 teams competeting for the National Collegiate Bowling Championship. Of the 12 teams, four will receive automatic bids to the championship, while the remaining eight teams will face-off in head-to-head matches. The four winners will advance to the National Collegiate Women’s Bowling Championship held from April 11-13 in Cleveland, Ohio. The Pioneers will know their seeding after the NCAA Selection Show, which will take place Wednesday, March 27 at 4 p.m. Sacred Heart finished the weekend perfect, winning all of its Mega Matches. The Pioneers earned a 4-3 win in the best-of-7 baker match, to swing the mega match to their favor. SHU dropped the opening traditional team match, 914-900. SHU entered the final game of the five-game backer series with a two-pin advantage and the quint baker match was hanging in the balance when the Pioneers anchor, Rachel Bamford, punched out the 10th frame to clinch the win. That victory evened the mega match and forced the best-of-7 baker that gave SHU the championship.
  • Women's Bowling Sweeps Mount St. Mary's in Day One of NEC Championships

    HAMILTON, NJ–– The Sacred Heart Women’s Bowling team swept Mount St. Mary’s in the second round of the NEC Women’s Bowling Championship Tournament on Friday. Rachel Bamford led the Pioneers in the Team Traditional Round with a 257. In the Quint Baker Round Sacred Heart defeated Mount St. Mary’s 3-2. The Pioneers started Baker play strong, defeating the Mountaineers in the first round. SHU dropped the second and third round, but pulled away with two wins in rounds 4 and 5 to secure a Mega Match win. With a Mega Match win, the Pioneers advance to the third round on Saturday, March 22 and will face Fairleigh Dickinson University.
  • Women's Bowling Defeats Fairleigh Dickinson to Advance to NEC Championship

    HAMILTON, NJ— The Sacred Heart women’s bowling team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson University to advance to the final round of the NEC Championship. FDU took the first match, defeating SHU by only a three point margin, 954-951, in the traditional team game. Sacred Heart came back to win the quint baker bout 926-869. The Pioneer’s comeback win forced a Best-of-7 Baker tiebreaker. SHU earned a 4-3 win over FDU in the tiebreaker. The Pioneers advance to Match 7 on Sunday, March 24th where they will face Mount St. Mary’s for the NEC Championship title. The Pioneers previously defeated the Mountaineers in Match 2 of the NEC Tournament.
  • Bamford and Jones Earn All-NEC Honors for Women's Bowling

    FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart University women’s bowling had two student athletes earn all-conference honors, as Rachel Bamford was named to the All-NEC First Team and Colby Jones to the Second Team as announced by the league Friday afternoon.
  • Women's Bowling Wraps Play at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic

    SMYRNA, TN–– The Sacred Heart women’s bowling team finished 16th at the Columbia 200 Music City Classic in Smyrna, TN. The team went 5-8 on the weekend knocking down 12,706 total pins. Rachel Bamford led the team, averaging 202.2 pins. Bamford finished 32nd out of 172 bowlers.
  • Women's Bowling Finishes Third at NEC Meet to Qualify for NEC Championship

    SINKING SPRING, Pennsylvania. – The Sacred Heart University women’s bowling team finished third at the final NEC meet of the season. Facing each opponent twice, the team posted a 9-9 NEC record. The Pioneer’s third place finish advances them NEC Championship Tournament on March 22nd.
  • Women's Bowling Places Third at Sunshine State Classic

    ORLANDO, Florida. –– Sacred Heart University women’s bowling team placed third out of 14 teams at the Sunshine State Classic. Junior Tori Boughton finished fifth out of 93 bowlers, averaging 208 pins. The Pioneers are back in action on Feb. 22 for NEC Meet #2.
  • Women's Bowling Concludes Play at the Kutztown Invitational

    KUTZTOWN, Pennsylvania. –– The Sacred Heart University women’s bowling team finished 19 out of 28 teams at the Kutztown Invitational. Though the team went 4-9, they only finished 250 pins behind their opponents. Tori Boughton lead the team, averaging 202 pins. The team travels to the Orlando, Florida to part in the Sunshine State Winter Classic on Feb. 8.
  • Women's Bowling Goes 2-4 At First NEC Bowling Meet

    MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – The Sacred Heart bowling team finished the first weekend of Northeast Conference with a 2-4 record at the meet, finishing behind Saint Francis U., Duquesne and Mount St. Mary’s. Sacred Heart will be back on the lanes in the new year, playing in the Kutztown Golden Bear Invitational Jan. 18-20, 2018.

    FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Rachel Bamford of Sacred Heart University women’s bowling was named the NEC Bowler of the Week, as announced by the league on Friday. Bamford is the first Pioneer to earn a conference weekly award this season.

    MILLSBORO, Delaware. – The Sacred Heart University women’s bowling team concluded its weekend play at the Hawk Classic by finishing second of 17 teams, placing behind last year’s defending NCAA champions Vanderbilt. SHU will be back in action when they compete in their first NEC Meet in Mechanicsburg, PA. on Dec. 1-2.

SHU will be back in action when they compete in the Hawk Classic hosted by Maryland-Eastern Shore Nov. 16-18.

  • Women's Bowling Opens Season with Third Place Finish

    EAST HAVEN, Conn. – Sacred Heart University women’s bowling opened its 2018-19 season by going 2-3 in the SHU Bowl for a Cure. Sophomore Rachel Bamford was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player after averaging 202.4 pins over the five team games Saturday. She bowled a competition-high, 246 in SHU's win over Molloy. Tori Boughton had a 202.2 average Saturday with a high score of 223 in the Pioneers' win against LIU Post, and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

  • SHU Women's Bowling Nabbed 12th in NTCA Preseason Coaches Poll

    FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart Pioneers women’s bowling team were ranked No. 12 in the nation by the National Tenpin Coaches Association in the 2018-19 Preseason Poll as announced on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The Pioneers open the season ranked 12th after concluding the season at No. 11. The 2017-18 NCAA National Champions, Vanderbilt comes into the season as the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, drawing 32 of 40 first-place votes.
