  • Frampton Scores First Career Goal in Field Hockey's 5-2 Loss at UMass Lowell

    LOWELL, Mass. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team fell to UMass Lowell on the road, 5-2 Friday afternoon. Colleen McAninley and Ally Frampton tallied a goal apiece for the Pioneers. With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 1-7 on the season, while the Riverhawks improve to 3-3 on the season with the win. SHU will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 22 when the Pioneers play host to Bucknell at noon at Johnson Field in New Haven.

    FAIRFIELD, Conn.. - The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team defeated Northeastern in three sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) to open day two of the SHU Invitational Saturday afternoon. With the win SHU improves to 4-4, while Northeastern falls to 4-5. Julia Murawinski led the Pioneers with 11 kills, while Sarah Ciszek added 37 assists, eight kills and six digs. Jasmine Rogers contributed a career-high 10 kills in the win as well. The Pioneers return to action tonight at 6 p.m. vs. Fairfield to close the SHU Invitational.

    NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team fell to Holy Cross, 2-0 Friday evening at Johnson Field. Bridget Kelly tallied a career-high three defensive saves in the loss. With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 1-5 on the season, while the Crusaders improve to 2-2 on the season with the win. SHU will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 14 when the Pioneers travel to Hamden to take on Quinnipiac at noon.

    HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team fell to Hofstra on the road, 3-1 Wednesday afternoon. Kayla Kruk scored the lone SHU goal in the loss. With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 1-4 on the season, while the Pride improves to 2-4 on the season with the win. SHU will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 13 when the Pioneers play host to Holy Cross at 6 p.m. at Johnson Field in New Haven.

Junior goalkeeper Hailey Power totaled a career-high 25 saves in the loss. With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 1-3 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 1-1 on the season with the win. SHU will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 11 when the Pioneers travel to Hempstead, N.Y. to take on Hofstra at 3 p.m.

    NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey completed its comeback to defeat St. Francis U., 4-3 in double-overtime in its home-opener at Johnson Field Friday afternoon. Colleen McAninley scored the game-winning goal, while Kayla Bedel-Franklin, Mia Katterman and Julia Chang tallied a goal apiece in the win. The Pioneers improve to 1-2 on the season with the win, while the Red Flash fall to 0-3 on the season with the loss. SHU will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 8 when the Pioneers take on Yale at Johnson Field at 1 p.m.

    PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team opened the 2019 season with a 3-0 road loss at La Salle on Hank DeVincent Field Friday afternoon. The Pioneers fell to 0-1 to open the season with the loss, while the Explorers open the season at 1-0 with the win. SHU will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 1 when the Pioneers travel to take on Villanova at noon.
  • Field Hockey Tabbed Fourth in NEC Preseason Coaches' Poll

    FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Sacred Heart University field hockey was picked to finish fourth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by the conference office on Friday. The Pioneers, who were picked to finish fifth last season, finished 8-12 and made a postseason appearance for the first time since 2014. Head coach Sydney van der Merwe returns for his fourth season at the helm and returns 18 letterwinners from last season's squad, including All-MAAC Second Team selections Kelsy Hopkins, Colleen McAninley and Hailey Power.

    FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Sacred Heart University announced its 18-game 2019 slate for the field hockey program on Monday. The Pioneers will host eight games on their home turf at Johnson Field on the campus of Yale University.
