Frampton Scores First Career Goal in Field Hockey's 5-2 Loss at UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team fell to UMass Lowell on the road, 5-2 Friday afternoon. Colleen McAninley and Ally Frampton tallied a goal apiece for the Pioneers. 

With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 1-7 on the season, while the Riverhawks improve to 3-3 on the season with the win. SHU will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 22 when the Pioneers play host to Bucknell at noon at Johnson Field in New Haven.

The Scoring

Second Quarter 

  • (18:52): Sofie Knook fed a pass across the middle to Kate Miller for the one-timer to put UMass Lowell up 1-0

  • (26:17): Brook Roberts sent a pass to Jenna Berger, who got loose on a breakaway and fired a shot past the keeper for the goal

Third Quarter 

  • (30:25): Colleen McAninley corralled a loose ball and put it home to cut the deficit to 2-1

  • (34:54): Off the corner insert, Berger shuffled the pass to Knook who shot it home for a 3-1 UMass lead

  • (40:21): Lauren Brushingham fed Ally Frampton in the circle, who snuck it past the keeper to cut the SHU deficit to 3-2

Fourth Quarter 

  • (56:17): Miller ran into the offensive circle and shot across the keeper for the goal to put the Riverhawks up 4-2

  • (58:39): Hannah Keefe scored on a tip-in to secure the 5-2 win for UMass Lowell


  • The Riverhawks outshot the Pioneers 20-6

  • SHU registered four shots on goal compared to 14 for UMass Lowell

  • Colleen McAninley's goal was her second of the season

  • Ally Frampton's goal was the first of her collegiate career

  • Hailey Power made nine saves 

  • SHU generated three penalty corners, while UMass Lowell registered seven
