Field Hockey's Hailey Power Named NEC Defensive Player of the Week

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Sacred Heart University field hockey goalkeeper Hailey power was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Power blanked the NEC's second-ranked offense for more than 65:00 in SHU's lone contest last week/. Starting the Pioneers' conference opener in the cage, the junior totaled 14 saves in a 1-0 OT setback to No. 23 Fairfield. Power's 14 stops represent the conference single-game high for the week. The junior goalkeeper made 10 second-half saves, including seven during Fairfield's third-quarter offensive onslaught. Power, who accounted for a .933 save percentage, proceeded to make one stop in overtime, denying Luzi Persiehl 13 seconds before surrendering the game-winner.

Power's 10.27 saves per game ranks first in the nation, while her .785 save-percentage leads the NEC and ranks eighth in the nation. The Pioneers will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 11 vs. California at 7 p.m. at Johnson Field in New Haven.
