Field Hockey Falls to Cal, 6-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team fell to the Cal Golden Bears at home, 6-0, Friday evening at Johnson Field. Senior Bridget Kelly recorded two defensive saves in the loss, pushing her NCAA-leading total to 10.

With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 1-11 on the season, while the Golden Bears improve to 5-9 on the season with the win. SHU will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 13 when the Pioneers play host to Merrimack at 3 p.m. at Johnson Field.


First Quarter

  • (4:38): Katrina Carter scored on a penalty stroke to give Cal a 1-0 lead

  • (5:39) Lindsay Mathison snuck it past the keeper on a loose ball in the circle to give Cal a 2-0 lead

Second Quarter

  • (22:54): Brynn Zorilla sent a pass to far far-side of the circle to Megan Rodgers, who put it past the keeper for a 3-0 lead

  • (29:28) Zorilla fed Monica Arteaga on a breakaway, Arteaga carried the ball into the circle and shot low past the keeper

Third Quarter 

  • (32:01): Megan Rodgers fed Katrina Carter in front of the goal, Carter went low past the keeper for the goal

Fourth Quarter

  • (47:04): Maddie Cleat shuffled a pass to Rodgers in the circle, who fired the one-timer home to take a 6-0 lead
