Sacred Heart University first-year golfer, Kailee Welch was named the Northeast Conference Golfer of the Month on Wednesday. It marks the first career honor for the Pioneer rookie.
Welch, a native of Huntington Beach, Calif., earns the honor after winning her first collegiate title at the SHU Fall Classic. In cold and rainy conditions in the first round, she shot a 75, which put her into a second-place tie and two shots back of the leader. In sunny conditions on Monday, Welch posted the best round of the day, 74, and rallied to win by a stroke. Welch finished with a two-day score if 149, +5, at the Great River Golf Course.
A graduate of Mater Dei Catholic, Welch played in four tournaments during the fall, encompassing nine rounds. Her average score was 77.67, which is +6.1 strokes per round to par. The second round 74 equaled her lowest round of the season, first achieved in the second round of the Boston College Intercollegiate.
