Rugby Defeats Castleton 3-0

The Sacred Heart University women's rugby team finished the fall portion of its schedule with a 3-0 win over Castleton on Park Avenue Field. The win improves the Pioneers to 3-5, while the Spartans fall to 2-7.

Game Notes:

  • The team's played 10 v 10, with three 20-minute matches
  • Each match was a point, with SHU winning all three to earn the 3-0 victory

Match 1: SHU 45, Castleton 0

Match 2: SHU 22, Castleton 10

  • Stephanie Wilson scored 30 seconds into the second match, giving the Pioneers a 5-0 lead
  • Novah Coe answered 4:05 later, tying the match 5-5
  • The Pioneers took the lead for good with a penalty try at the 6:50 mark
  • Mag finished the first-half scoring for Castleton, at 9:02, bringing the Spartans within two, 12-10 at the break
  • The Pioneers blanked Castleton in the second half, with tries from Jumper and Keller for the final margin
  • Mag again led all players, with five tackles, and had two ROT's
  • Carroll led the Pioneers with three tackles in the match
  • The Pioneers had five ROT's in the match, from five different players

Match 3: SHU 22, Castleton 0

  • Kaylee Hale scored the lone try of the first-half, at the 5:53 mark
  • Sophie Hale struck 2:35 into the second-half, for a 10-0 Pioneer advantage
  • Emily Egan scored at 1624 and Keller wrapped up the scoring at the 18:11 mark
  • Wilson led the Pioneers defensively, with three tackles

By The Numbers

  • SHU totaled 14 ROT's in the match, from nine different players
  • Keller led the team with four ROT's
  • Mag led all players with 13 tackles on the afternoon, while Coe added 10 tackles for the Spartans
  • Mag had two of the three ROT's for Castleton, all in the second match
