Michelle Clarkin Named NEC Rookie of the Year, Four Women's Soccer Players Earn All-NEC Honors

SOMERSET, N.J.- Sacred Heart University Women's Soccer first-year Michelle Clarkin was tabbed NEC Rookie of Year for her outstanding seven goal first college season. The first-year also headlined a crop of four Pioneers who earned All-NEC honors. The four pioneers include Clarkin, Meadow Mancini, Nichol Green, and Azria Malloy all first-year's. 

Along with Clarkin being named NEC Rookie of the Year, she was named to the All-NEC First Team and All-NEC Rookie Team. Clarkin led the Pioneers in goals during the regular season netting seven on the year and is third in the conference in goals as well as in points with a total of 17 on the year. With her seven regular season goals, she is tied for fourth in program history in single season goals and fourth in program history in single season points. She was also named NEC Player of thr Week on September 4. 

Mancini received All-NEC Second Team honors as well as to the All-NEC Rookie Team honors. She tallied four goals on the year which was second on team and was also second on team in points this year with 10. Her top game came against Temple on September 1 when she tallied a goal and an assist. 

Green received All-NEC Rookie team honors for her impressive first collegiate season. She tallied three assists which was tied for first on the team for three points on the year as she recorded those on three different occasions which include the Pioneers 1-0 victory over Saint Peter's on Sept. 14, SHU's 1-0 win against St. Francis Brooklyn on Sept. 29 and the Pioneers 3-0 victory over Mount Saint Mary's that took place on Oct. 20.

Malloy was named the to the All-NEC Seecond Team as well as the All-NEC Rookie Team. She was tied for third on team in goals with three on the year and was tied for second on team in assists with two. Malloy was named NEC Co-Player of the Week on Oct. 1 as well as NEC Rookie of the Week for her impressive two goal week as she tallied two goals one coming at Wagner on Sept. 27 and nailed the game winner against St. Francis Brooklyn on Sept. 29. She was also named NEC Rookie of the Week one other time this year on Sept. 17. 

The Pioneers will compete tomorrow at the NEC Tournament in the semi-finals against local rival Central Connecticut State. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
