Softball Sweeps Saint Francis (Pa.) 3-1, and 4-2

LORETTO, Pa.- The Sacred Heart University Softball team took two games away from Saint Francis (Pa.) this afternoon as the SHU defeated the Red Flash 3-1 in nine innings in the first game and 4-2 in the second game. The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 17 when the Pioneers face in-state rival Yale. First-pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.

 

Game One

SHU 3, SFU 1 F/9

The Scoring

Bottom of the 3rd inning- An RBI single by Hayley Norton would score in a run to put SFU ahead 1-0.

Top of the 5th inning- The Pioneers would answer back with an sacrifice fly by senior Stephanie Mangiameli to even the score at 1-1.

Top of the 9th inning- First-year Amy Petrovich would rip an RBI double to to right center scoring in senior Chole Weeks to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead.

Top of the 9th inning- A sacrfice fly by first-year Brianna Santos would score in Petrovich to give the Pioneers the 3-1 victory.

 

The Numbers

  • At the plate it would be first Amy Petrovich that would score the game winning double as she went 1-4 with the double to give SHU the 2-1 lead in the ninth inning.
  • In the circle senior Emily Orosco would dominate going all nine innings giving up just one run on six hits and striking out seven batters to pick up her sixth win of the season. 

 

Game Two

SHU 4, SFU 2

The Scoring

Top of the 2nd inning- An RBI single by senior Hailey Desrosiers would score in sophomore Kylee Harvey to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0. 

Top of the 3rd inning- Junior Katelyn Christian would rip a solo homer to left field to put SHU ahead 2-0.

Top of the 5th inning- A throwing error would score in graduate student Fallon Bevino to put the Pioneers ahead 3-0. 

Top of the 5th inning- An RBI single by first year Alyssa Gonzalez would put SHU ahead 4-0.

Bottom of the 6th- A sac fly and and RBI groudout would be the way SFU would be able to tally two runs but would not be enough giving SHU the 4-2 victory.

 

The Numbers

  • At the plate the Pioneers were led by senior Hailey Desrosiers and first-year Alyssa Gonzalez as both would knotch a pair of RBI singles to contribute to the Pioneers 4-2 win.
  • In the circle senior Kristen McCann would dominate as she went all seven innings giving up just two runs on eight hits and striking out five to earn her sixth win of the season.
