Softball Takes Game Two Against Bryant 7-5 In Nine Innings

SPRINGFIELD, R.I.- The Sacred Heart University Softball team picked up the two game sweep of Bryant this afternoon as the Pioneers defeated Bryant in nine innings by a final score of 7-5. SHU will conclude the regular season on Saturday, May 4 when the Pioneers travel to face Robert Morris. First-pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.

Game Two

SHU 7, Bryant 5 (F/9)

The Scoring

Top of the 1st inning- Junior Katelyn Christian would groundout to second base scoring in senior Hailey Desrosiers from third to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0.

Bottom of the 1st inning- Carlyn Hernandez would walk with the bases loaded to even the score at 1-1.

Top of the 2nd inning- Sophomore Kylee Harvey would reach first on an error scoring in first-year Amy Petrovich to give SHU a 2-1 lead.

Top of the 4th inning- Desroisers would rip a double to left center scoring in Harvey to put the Pioneers ahead 3-1. 

Bottom of the 4th inning- Jenna Cali would fly out to centerfield scoring in a run to tighten the SHU lead to 3-2. 

Top of the 5th inning- First-year Brianna Santos would launch a double to centerfield scoring in Petrovich to put the Pioneers ahead 4-2. 

Bottom of the 5th inning- Jessica Gradillas would hit a three-run homer to right field to give the Bulldogs a 5-4 lead.

Top of the 6th inning- Desrosiers would continue her impressive day with a single to right field scoring in sophomore Caroline Kruger to even the score at 5-5.

Top of the 9th inning- Senior Stephanie Mangiameli would reach first on an error scoring in two runs to give the Pioneers a 7-5 lead and the victory over the Bulldogs. 

 

The Numbers

  • The Pioneers would outhit the Bulldogs 13-9 in the game. 
  • At the plate senior Hailey Desrosiers would lead the way for the Pioneers going 4-6 with two RBI and a double.
  • In the circle senior Emily Orosco would pick up her tenth win of the season going five innings allowing no runs on two hits and striking out five.
