Swimming and Diving Concludes Day Two at Blue Devil Invite

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University Swimming and Diving team concluded day two at the Blue Devil Invite tonight as SHU remains in third with a score of 718. The Pioneers conclude the invite tomorrow with finals beginning at 6:00 p.m.

In strokes, the Pioneers had a big day as sophomore Nicole Tingley highlighted the day putting up a school record breaking time from 2012 in the 400 IM, touching the wall at 4:33.96 for a third place finish. Meanwhile junior Emily Peter took first in the 100 meter butterfly with an impressive time of 58.07 while sophomore Taylor Eck placed fourth with a time of 59.09. Then to continue the strong stroke day for SHU,  senior Lauren Somers took first in the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 1:54.42. In the 100 meter breast stroke, Senior Julia Pusateri placed eighth with a time of 1:09.03. 

In the 100 meter back stroke freshman Casey Barrett took fourth with a time of 1:00.59 while fellow freshman Kelly Bartnett had the fastest time in the B final with a time of 1:00.53 followed by Eck with a time of 1:01.04. 

Barrett was the lone competitor in the 100 IM touching the wall with a time of 1:03.41. 

The first diving events took place today as sophomore Molly Martin dominated the 1 meter dive with a score of 207.70 to take first just one point off her season best. Sophomore Megan McLaughlin trailed in second with a score of 206.90 while sophomore Jessica Pianese came in seventh with a score of 142.05. 

In relays, the Pioneers placed third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.17 in the group of Taylor Eck, Julia Pusateri, Emily Peter and Lauren Somers. In the 800 freestyle relay, SHU placed third with a time of 7:59.22 in the group of Kelly Bartnett, Casey Barrett, Nicole Tingley and Margaret Flaherty
